Bridport Hat Festival – UK

Bridport Hat Festival – the first such event of its kind – started in 2010. It is run by volunteers on a not-for-profit basis, raising funds for head-related charities.
Our Festival is a ‘head-y’ mix of gents’ headwear and the finest ladies’ millinery, combined with music, competitions, demonstrations, talks, exhibitions, hatted dogs and more, all ‘topped’ off by a HUGE mass hat-wearing photo-shoot in the town square. Hats ready? Come on down!

The Dutch Hat Association (De Nederlandse Hoeden Vereniging) started in 2003,. The Association aims to bring back the hat in the fashion image, promoting professionalism of hatters. They hold a contest every year with a new theme. They also have a monthly hat magazine.

Hatatorium Emporium

A place to go to learn about vintage hats. The website gallery now contains over 3,100 pictures, organized in a searchable database. The gallery is growing constantly as more hat collectors join us in exhibiting their collections. The database interfaces with the Hatatorium eBook, creating a seamless, dynamic repository for vintage hat research.

Mut zum Hut

A Hat Show held annually during September in Neuburg, Germany. Founded in 1998 by Mrs Ute Patel-Mißfeldt. with the aim of getting people to wear hats more and to recognise the power that hats have to complete any style, headwear of every shape, size and description was sported on Mut Zum Hut’s runways.

National Costumer Association – USA

The National Costumers Association was organized on August 24, 1923, bringing together a small group of costumers dedicated to upgrading and promoting the costume industry. Through the years both the association and the industry have grown in size and scope.

Spanish Millinery Society

Milliners and Hatmakers have formed this Non-profit association for the promotion, promotion and dissemination of hat culture.

St. Catherine’s Day

St Catherine’s Day was instituted by the Catholic Church to commemorate Catherine of Alexandria, a first century martyr and the patron saint of milliners. The holiday officially falls on November 25th but milliners around the world now hold celebrations in St Catherine’s honour throughout the month of November.

Many organizations celebrate with a stroll through the city. Major celebrations are held in Madrid, several cities in France, New York, and New Orleans. Check with your nearby hat group about their plans or, get one started for next year.

The Hat Ladies

The Hat Ladies of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, offer a hat show that features hats of many styles—vintage; over-the-top; stylish—with a twist. Both entertaining and educational, The Hat Ladies will show you how to wear hats, restore and store them, and generally have fun with this accessory. They have been having programs to educate people about the stunning hats that women of Johnstown have worn since 1901.

They conduct about 30 to 40 shows a year. The women (Marsha McDowell and Pat Holifield McDowell and Pat Holifield have expanded their program to include vendors, entertainment, tributes and a memorial service to hat ladies who are deceased. At the annual events, The Hat Ladies raise money for the Mattie King and Maggie Segars Scholarship Fund.
