RELEASE OF HAT VIDEO
WHAT IS IT ABOUT HATS? A Documentary About the People Under the Brim
was released this spring and is making the rounds of the country at special
viewings. The film, by Andee Kinzy, is available in DVD or VHS format in our
Books, Videos & Patterns section. “The secrets of hat wearers are uncapped
in this upbeat romp through a previously unexplored fashion accessory as
intriguing individuals reveal the benefits, the power and the confidence that
comes when a woman places a chapeau on her head.”
We plan to host several showings of the film here in LaGrange, the
first being Saturday, July 9. For those of you too far away to join us, why not
host a viewing in your city or town? Contact your local tv, radio and print media
to help promote the event. You might also consider inviting Andee.
NEW ITEMS
The Straw Hatbodies selection has broadened with the addition of toyo, visca
and some vintage straws. The toyo show in twisted, standard and basket
weaves and several sizes. The viscas bodies work up nicely for an out of
the ordinary hat. Several colors and sizes are offered. Especially exciting
are the possiblities open with the vintage hatbodies in cellophane “onionskin”
and sewn braid. Some of these will never be seen again once our stock is gone.
The HyMark brand of thread for millinery use is new for us and can be found under the
Notions category. This strong thread will glide through most any type of hat fiber.
While in Notions, check out the section for Sewing Aids to find other thread
strengtheners.
Spring Steel wire coils have been added to the Wire section (found under Sundries)
along with 20yd coils of #19, #21 and #23 rayon covered brim wire.

Showing on the schedule are workshops for July, August and September. Dates will
be listed for the remainder of the year soon. We try to offer at least one class
each month January through November. Always, let us know your ideas for workshops.
CLOSE OUTS AND SALES
More items appear almost daily in the Close Out and Sales section as items the
retail store become listed. These items are also being listed on ebay.com. The
end of March saw the closing of our retail shop after eight years. We prefer
concentrating on the supply end and educational programs. We expect to be better
than ever with product, prices and delivery.
Windowpane Sinamay is our featured sale item on the website. We have it in
natural and black at $5.25 yard. Makes a wonderful overlay for straw, or a very
airy look used alone. The hat worn by the Duchess of Cornwall in the civil
cermony may have been done with this weave of sinamay.
