January Newsletter

Greetings to you from the staff at Judith M Millinery:

First, we apologize for being lax the latter part of 1999 in not sending a newsletter to you. Some of you contacted us wondering if your name had been removed from our mailing list due to not receiving a newsletter in some time. The year got away from us and now, January of 2000 has almost slipped by as well.

There are some exciting things happening at Judith M. New products available and more coming in the next few months. We'll be adding additional information links to the web page also. The first will be a listing of millinery courses available across the country and around the world. If you know of programs in your area send us an email with the school name, address and tel.number, and person to contact so we can include them in the listing.

WINTER BOOK SALE- To encourage your winter hibernating we are offering a book sale. Buy one book and receive a 10% discount. Two books - 15% discount and 3 books - 20% discount.

In the new product list is a change in the hatpin shanks we offer. We now are making our own from stainless steel rods. The price has stayed the same plus we have added a 12" length to go along with the 4", 7" and 9". We will also do special orders of custom lengths, if ordered in 12 pcs or more. Allow a two week lead time for special orders.

Additional shapes of the cap visor have also been added, there is a child's visor @ $.20 ea., or $2.00/dz, a painter's cap visor @$.25 ea., or $2.50/dz and the adult visor at $.40 ea., $4.00/dz. These are still in the hard, white plastic. Also, there are sheets of a lighter weight white plastic which can be sewn through. The sheets measure 48" x 55" and are $11.75 each.

Publishing is another new venture for us. We will be setting up a separate web page with books published by us and linking to it from our main home page. We will be publishing millinery related books currently out of print. Two titles have been published thus far, both from the Scranton, Pennsylvania Women's Institute of Domestic Arts and Sciences,(WIDAS) Department of Millinery. "Ribbon Trimmings" , a 200 page text on ribbonwork for trimming hats, $24.95. "Novelty Trims", $8.95, a smaller complementary text, with more fashion embellishment ideas.

With the trend toward wearable arts these are two very timely books. Mail list subscribers may receive both books for $27.50. You will need to mention the code word, "trimset", when ordering to receive the special price.

We have plans to publish more of the WIDAS titles plus several other great millinery books now out of print. This is an especially exciting venture for us. The publishing web page is being worked on at present. You will receive notice when it is up and going. What fun if we could publish all the out of print works on our "wish" list all at once. Alas, the usual problem of lack of funds holds us up. But that gives us something to anticipate.

This letter is getting long enough. Don't want to flood you with everything that is happening, will leave something for the next newsletter.
