HOOSIER TOUR VISITS JUDITH M
This past Wednesday was a special treat for us here at Judith M and I wish every one of you would have been here to enjoy it with us. The Hoosier Tour group stopped in town with 50 Auburn Cord Dusenberg motorcars and their drivers and passengers. Wow! Besides our being fortunate enough to have been included as a stop on this year's annual tour, the cars used our side street (Spring Street) for their parking lot. The cars were on display roughly four hours over the noontime as everyone disembarked to tour the courthouse and visit our shop.
I was able to slip out briefly and walk among these grand old
automobiles. It was a feast for the senses to look upon the gaily
colored coups, convertibles, roadsters and sedans. Big Band music
floated over the air and I wished to be able to step into a 1935
Cabriolet and discover myself in that world of yesteryear.
The tour is part of the Auburn Cord Dusenberg Festival held annually in
Auburn, Indiana, over the Labor Day week-end. There are events scheduled
throughout the week-end, including a Parade of Classics on Saturday and
a street fair on Sunday. A new addition this year is a special Tea for
ladies only. The chairwoman was in the shop earlier this week to
purchase a hat to wear at the tea. She was spilling over with gladness
at the 145 reservations received! She'd been hoping there would be at
least 25 interested ladies. For more complete information about this
year's festival click on the link to go to the Auburn Cord Dusenberg
Museum website. http://www.acdmuseum.org/index.html
NEW ARRIVAL - TEA TIME MAGAZINE
The first issue of Tea Time magazine, by the publishers of Southern
Lady, is now available at the shop. It is just as wonderful as it's
older sister, S.L. with articles about tea, how to make tea, places to
take tea, recipes and all the accouterments for tea. Including hats!
BIG WEEK-END IN SEPTEMBER
September 19th and 20th are filled with hat happenings at Judith M. Our
annual Fall Hat Show is Saturday, September 20, between 10am and 5pm.
Stop in and try on creations from our guest milliners. Featured
designers will be Chris Blohm of Valparaiso, Indiana, and Missy Weiberg
of Bensenville, Illinois. Delight over out of the ordinary hand felted
toques and funky, yet fashionable chapeaux. Hats from Burning Bush
Millinery, Chicago, will also be on display.
The Brick House Inn, 408 North Detroit Street, will be the scene of our
Hat Tea during the Fall Hat Show. The hat theme is feathers. The tea
starts at noon. to reserve your spot call 260-463-2961 or 260-463-2699.
Then don a befeathered beauty and enjoy the scrumptious luncheon served
up by Estelle Carney and helpers.
Combine attendance at the Hat Tea and a stop at the shop and walk away
feeling heady with dreams of great hats.
Also that week-end we are sponsoring a Straw Hat Class with instructor
Veronica Chin. Class runs two days, Friday and Saturday (Sept 19 - 20)
from 9am to 4pm. Sign up to learn about straw blocking and Ms. Chin's
"guerilla millinery" philosophy and go home with several new hats
created by you.
UPCOMING EVENTS
October and November offer classes in discovering the right trim for the
perfect look. Professional Hat Trimming with Cynthia Lundeen runs
October 9 - 10. Learn how to work with veiling and horsehair and the
manipulating feathers into exciting trim accents.
Antique ribbonwork will be the subject on November 7 - 8 with Anna and
Judith. Changeable trims from ribbon is the focus for the November
class. Learn several flower making techniques and several folded ribbon
patterns. Check the website for more details on these or other classes.
SEASONAL CHANGES
Hats for the fall and winter seasons are arriving almost daily. Bigger
brims and standout styles are features from Holland Hatmakers, Kates of
Canada and our own small line.
Our assortment of flowers and feathers has greatly expanded for fall. We
are overflowing with trims. And we've added new colors to the velour fur
felt hatbodies and increased options by bringing in a heavyweight
wool/rayon felt blend for flat pattern hatmaking. The yardage is 72
inches wide and sells at $22.95 per yard. It is available in ten colors.
All good wishes to each of you this Labor Day week-end. Work if you
must, and enjoy the moments as you live them,
