April 2002 Newsletter

Warm Spring Greetings to each of you,

I'm sure I saw snow flakes today, but spring is really here. Daffodils and tulips have sprung up everywhere. I apologize for such a long newsletter but I have much to tell you.

When you have a moment, please pop in at Judith M for a peek at our lovely straw hats for spring and summer. We have some brightly colored hats in horsehair and straw for under $20, with matching bags. The same style of hat in a larger version, comes in black or white, for under $25. All of these are untrimmed, but look great.

For trimmings, we have many lovely flowers to choose from. Other colorful trims include veiling and horsehair braiding. Oh, we have also made some hatbands from vintage braiding. These have velcro closures, making them adjustable, and are $3.95.

Wide brimmed straw hats run $19.95, in colors of natural, black, navy and periwinkle. These have adjustable ribbon sweatbands. For a dressy look, we have an open weave straw made exclusively for Judith M in colors of natural, black and red. These have the adjustable ribbon band also, $24.95.

More lovely scarves have arrived in watercolor pastels. A wonderful gift for Mother's Day remembrances. And vintage hankies in a wondrous assortment.

REDHAT - More Red Hat enthusiasts pop up weekly and we have created a RedHat corner complete with grand red and purple ostrich feather 24" high, gloves, scarves, wraps, flowers and hatpins. One of our newest hat styles has been created from vintage red straw braiding by our own dear Anna.

We can make this hat for you in several other vintage colors. They are beautifully crafted one of a kind hats from Judith M.

CLASSES - Our classes this coming week-end have filled and we have scheduled a repeat for May 10 and 11. Then we have scheduled a two-day class June 28-29 on learning how to create the braided straw hat. If you wish for information on either class dates I will be happy to email the details to you.

DREAMERS - Several of the small shop areas in our building have become available to rent. I am told the rents will be very accommodating, as our landlord prefers having the spaces filled with lovely quaint shops rather than offices. A number of you have shared your dreams of a shop of linens, jewelry, antiques, or tea room with me. My wish is that a few of you will find the courage to bring reality to the dream and join Judith M on the corner of Detroit and Springs Streets.

SUMMER TEA - Lastly, don't forget to purchase your tickets for the June Summer Tea, Saturday, June 22. Tickets are $15 until May 19. The program guest is Lisa Farrell of Ooh-La-La. A small millinery shop in Highland Park, IL. We are holding the tea in the Methodist Church hall two blocks from the shop. The room is larger and more convenient for us. Do hope everyone will join us this year. It is such fun.

Fondly,
Judith M
