Greetings!
Seems like the hot days of summer arrived this
week. The sun is beaming hotly and reminding us to grab a sun hat before
heading out. Sun damage can happen any season of the year but I think about it more when the sun is hot and bright.
The winners and finalists of our WoolFelt hat competition are now posted on our website. One can see the hats and read a statement about each. Click here to go to that page: Hat Competition We hope the page will get you excited about experimenting with the flat felt yardage and that you might consider adding a design or two to your cool season styles.

Mut Zum Hut Festival in Germany
| This is the 11th year for this celebration of the hat on the grounds of the Schloss Neuburg (Neuburg Castle), Neuburg a.d. Donau, Germany. September 24-26, 2010.
Enjoy 3 days filled with fashion shows, vendors and great food. An open invitation is below: Letter of invitation to Milliners to participate in the greatest "Hat Show" of
the world, from 24th - 26th September 2010
Invitation
Dear
Milliners, Maybe you have read about us in the
"Hat Magazine". I am the organizer of the world's greatest "Hat
Show". This event always takes place the last week of September
in Neuberg, Bavaria, Germany, a beautiful city with an 1100 year history. About
100 Milliners from all over the world exhibit about 15.000 hats with
great success. The event takes place at the main palace, in our renaissance city and becomes, a once a year an "Eldorado" or bonanza for hat lovers. The show has thousands of visitors from many parts of the
world. We have a website: Mut Zum Hut Festival with more information on this year's event and images from past shows. I
would love to have milliners from all over the world participate in the event. Carole Denford, the chief editor of
the "Hat Magazine" covered our
2009 event with wonderful 4 pages in the Issue 44 of January/March 2010.
You
are welcome to call me (Tel.: 0049 8431 49250, Fax: 40711) or take up
contact per Email. My Email address is: ute.patel-missfeldt@gmx.de I can then supply you with additional information about participating. I, together
with the Hat kings ("Hutkoenige"), the Nuslan Brothers of
Regensburg, have visited "Ascot" in the year 2009. It was
fantastic. We were invited by the ZDF ("Second German Television),
and it was of course shown in the television. May be that we shall
visit Ascot again this year. And may be we meet you there! Again, I
would love to have participants from all over the world. Media such as television, radio, magazines, newspapers etc. report
about our exciting event. Who knows, they might include you in the
reports too! Hoping to hear from you soon,

We have wonderful learning opportunities in a two-day setting at our Indiana studio. Our instructors are excellent and pack a lot into the classes. Everyone leaves exhausted but fulfilled and inspired by end of day two. Click on the link below to read more bout the workshops being offered at Judith M Studio. The workshop in early July offers an opportunity to learn how to work with horsehair (or crin). Crin is a popular trim item but not the easiest thing to work with. Participants will create a hat with a petal brim and also practice making an variety of hat accents using horsehair. September brings back the Open Studio for beginners and advanced students where everyone can learn at their own pace. And we will again offer a workshop over the Thanksgiving week-end. This time it will focus on trims. Hat Workshops 2010This is not a complete listing, we will add one or two more dates in autumn, so please check back.

| Interview with hat collector Alyce Cornyn-Selby | Alyce runs The Hat Museum out of a historic, 100-year-old house in Portland, Oregon, with a collection of over 1,000 hats. Collectors Weekly recently published an interview with Ms Cornyn-Selby.

In April
2002 author/driver Alyce Cornyn-Selby climbed into a very topless "open
cockpit" roadster and drove from one side of America to the other. The car had no heat, no doors, no windows and no windshield wipers.

Blocks Blocks and Blocks
| We recently took in eight cartons of vintage hat blocks. Crowns and Brims in mostly larger head sizes. Most of them are now listed on our website under CloseOuts. Of course, we are keeping some for student use at the workshops in our studio. There are blocks for men's and women's hats.
