Greetings!
Finally
we are ready to announce the winners of our WoolFelt™ Hat
Competition. My apologies for the long delay as I know many of
you are patiently waiting for the unveiling of winning hats and their
creators. It took a great deal more time than I had anticipated and
hope you will understand the prolonged wait.
The entries were
excellent and judging was difficult. Following review of the entry
images and statements it was narrowed down to seven finalists in the
Pattern category and six in the Blocked class. Those thirteen hats
were sent to us for closer evaluation. The process of choosing the
winner and runner-up for each category was made with fine
distinctions because the hats presented were well done and all of
them could have been first. The winning entries are shown below in
the newsletter content.
Thank you to everyone that entered. We wish each of you a great year
in millinery.

BLOCKED HAT - 1ST PLACE
'My ideas drifted towards using the
material in such a way that would produce a hat that was durable in
nature for everyday wear as well as a design that I could offer my
clients in the future."
Lisa Farrell Ooh-la-la Illinois BLOCKED RUNNER-UP
"My
goal with the hat I created was to design something fresh, modern and
completely wearable."
| Rose Monzyk Hats by Josephine Missouri PATTERN HAT-1ST PLACE
"I
wanted to show the versatility possible in a wool felt hat. This
hat offers a wardrobe of options to suit every mood."

Susan Freese Inspired Millinery Indiana PATTERN RUNNER-UP
"I
chose this pattern for two reasons: it resembled a hat from a vintage
pattern and I wanted a challenge. I
found that flat felt is able to lend itself to a wide variety of
artistic possibilities."

We have wonderful learning opportunities in a two-day setting at our Indiana studio. Our instructors are excellent and pack a lot into the classes. Everyone leaves exhausted but fulfilled and inspired by end of day two. The next class, is in late May and one can block till ones fingers are numb. Ms Hubka is a blocking diva and no one will be disappointed by the tips and secrets gained from spending time in her class. You may bring the odd shape you think would make a great hat but need help in figuring out how to block on it or, just come have the use of our blocks for two days. We are getting a cartload of vintage puzzle blocks and other unusual shapes from an estate. Be one of the first to try them!Click on the link below to read more bout the workshops being offered at Judith M Studio. Hat Workshops 2010This is not a complete listing, we will add one or two more dates in autumn, so please check back.
