Greetings!
The end of one year and entry into a new year is a natural time to look back and forward and I have been doing just that. I am recalling a conversation among students during a workshop recently. The instructor was from Chicago and several students wondered out loud about the fun of traveling to Chicago to take the class. They thought that Chicago would be a happening place to visit, with lots to offer in entertainment and art. As the idea was tossed around someone brought up the cost of lodging in Chicago versus the modest priced B&B they were staying at during our workshop. Steep parking fees were another cost they factored in to a stay in the city. Finally, everyone agreed that it was much better to be in small Lagrange, Indiana instead of the big city.
Curious how things work towards a solution. I have always assumed I would eventually need to give up rural life and move to Chicago to keep my company going. It would seem like a smart move when growing a business. But having overheard their conversation has changed my mind. Rural, northern Indiana has a lot to offer visitors. This area is known for its large Amish and Mennonite communities. Between the small towns is farm land. A drive along any back road brings a vista of white clapboard frame farm houses and red barns, green fields dotted with black and white cows or large, brown work horses. Fields of corn and soybeans keep the scene ever changing as crops are planted in spring and harvested months later. Bus exhaust in the city cannot match the fragrance of freshly mown hayfields.
So I am staying put. And spending this year in celebration of the moment, where I am, now. judith"...what can anyone give you greater than now, starting here, right in this room, when you turn around?" William Stafford in "You Reading This, Be Ready" |

anticipated. Finalists have been selected and those hats are
wending their way to us from all around the world.
Thank you
