Greetings!
Our
summer season is rapidly turning to fall, with cooler days and
nights. We had none of the long hot, humid spells of a normal summer
in Indiana. Scattered days with hot temps I can handle, but I tend to
wilt in the humidity and heat and find my thinking processes also
shut down. I really have no excuse then, for not getting a newsletter
out before now. -Simply took a vacation, I guess. I also realize this newsletter is sneaking in just under the wire as September is only a couple days away.
In
this letter we have posted congratulatory notices about several
milliners. We would love to laud the achievements of all. If you
would like recognition in a future newsletter please send your
information to me at judithm@judithm.com.
This fall marks the
15th anniversary of judithm.com and we are planning a few surprises
to celebrate. I am amazed at how quickly the years have flown.
And grateful, too, because of meeting so many of you, via email,
forum and at our studio. We do not live in a vacuum, and your
friendships are constant reminders of how small the world really is.
all
the best to you, judith

Felt Celebration in October 2009
|
2009
is the United Nation's International Year of Natural Fibres. On October
3rd, 2009 - feltmakers from around the globe will celebrate by joining
together and displaying their felt. It will be the first annual International Day of Felt. FeltUnited is a not-for-profit
group of felt artists with a vast ranging network reaching feltmakers
across the planet through diverse associations, groups and guilds. Our goal is to connect feltmakers around the globe to raise awareness of FELT as a both a craft and an artform.
Felt
is man's oldest known textile. Natural animal fibres combined with a
wet environment and agitation are all one needs to produce a non-woven
fabric that can withstand the tests of time. It's uses are endless...
from purely utilitarian to utterly whimsical. Click here to go to their website: http://www.feltunited.com/The theme for this year will be a slice of the colour wheel, yellow through red.

The One Year, Hat-a-Day Project
|
Norma Shephard, of Canada, is blogging about hats and how they have changed her life,
and continue to affect it. She says, "In fact my life is largely about hats, which is why I
have embarked upon a One Year,
Hat-a-Day project" Read her blog on the Mobile Millinery Museum & Costume
Archive at Hat-A-Day blog
Norma goes on to say, "As director of the
museum, so many new and vintage hats pass through my fingers in a year that I
thought it would be fun to take readers on a tour of our archives, one hat at a
time. I hope you will follow
the One Year
Hat-a-Day project and have some fun with the hats that pass
your way. 1,000 of the over 2500 hats in the archives of the
Mobile
Millinery
Museum are showcased in my book,
1,000
Hats."

"We bring history to
you"
It should be fun keeping up with her hats and thoughts for the next year. I know I am going to try and visit it often in the next 360 days. I don't think she offers a way to sign up to receive the blog in your inbox so you will need to bookmark her website. |

Thank you for reading our newsletter and for your interest in or love of hats. We delight in hearing what hats you are making or wearing and hope you will keep in touch.

the world today,
There aren't enough people wearing hats." Judith M shopping
