Workshop for Non-Traditional Bridal |
The older bride has always had fewer options and the current trend of
moving toward quirky and capricious looks for the young bride does open
things up for everyone. Instructor Laura Hubka will help you perfect your skills for creating these small hats and head pieces including the in demand birdcage veil.
Techniques learned in this class translate beautifully towards the
construction of cocktail hats for the non-bridal season.

Bamboo Felt Experiment

REPORT ON OUR EXPERIMENT WITH BAMBOO FELT
A new, eco-friendly fiber is being introduced to the fabric world this summer. XoticFelt™ is a 100% natural fabric made from a blend of bamboo and rayon and is the Industry's first felt made from bamboo. They are eco-friendly, making bamboo the ideal green choice for those seeking a renewable, sustainable textile. Bamboo is actually a grass not a tree, making it the fastest growing timber plant on earth. Thriving naturally without pesticides, bamboo has other natural benefits including its antibacterial and antifungal quality called bamboo kun.
We received a sample and were curious as to its blocking properties. We can tell you that yes, in fact, the bamboo felt does block quite easily. However, it must be handled carefully as it wrinkles quickly due to the light fabric weight.
We do not plan to offer this product but wanted you to know about it. Please check with your local fabric shop. We mentioned the felt weight problem to the manufacturer and are hoping that in future there will be a heavier weight of bamboo felt. It does work well for hat trimmings as you can see in the photo of the beret we blocked. |
